How to use Free Shadowing

Practice English by shadowing real YouTube speech — listen, repeat, and get a score.

1. Add a video

Open the app and tap Add YouTube video.
Paste a YouTube URL, then open the episode.
Tap Prepare shadow segments (needs captions / CC on the video).

Tip: Prefer videos with lots of clear conversation and English captions turned on. Music-heavy clips, silent footage, or videos with captions disabled won’t prepare well. Auto-generated captions work, but may occasionally mis-hear fillers like “um” or merge lines.

2. Practice a segment

Tap a segment in the list.
Play the clip, then Record yourself saying the same line.
Tap Finish & score for pronunciation feedback.

3. Review your score

Word chips show weak spots — tap a word to drill it.
Compare Original voice with Your recording.
Colored numbers on the episode list show your best score so far (green ≥85, amber ≥55, red below).
Tap a scored segment again to reopen your last score — you don’t have to re-record unless you want to.

Windows install notes

Download Setup from silverla.co only — run the installer, then open Free Shadowing from the Start menu (desktop shortcut optional).
No admin password needed for the standard install (it installs for your Windows user).
Chrome or SmartScreen may still warn on a new or unsigned build. If you trust silverla.co: Chrome → Keep / Download anyway; SmartScreen → More info → Run anyway.
Prefer the installer over the portable zip. A portable zip is available on the download page if you need it.

Android install notes

Download the APK from silverla.co on your phone (default is 64-bit; use the 32-bit link only on older devices).
Open the file and allow Install unknown apps for Chrome / Files when Android asks.
Allow Microphone when you practice. The beta talks to the Silverla cloud API (no PC required).
Not on Google Play yet — only install if you trust the download from silverla.co.
